Beaded Jewelry and Ornaments

Beading, for me, is just another excuse to visit the exciting playground of color.  Over the years I have trained as a traditional artist.  I paint still life, landscape and portraits in oil, pastel and acrylic.  I especially love painting animals and am fairly proficient in the art of caricature.

Actually I came to beading simply as a means to get what I wanted by using the materials that were readily available to me.  I love the contrast of the lavish and crude of old Russian jewelry.  I'm also  captivated by what the Venetians do with glass.  One thing led to another hence the crosses.

The same rules apply to beading that apply to painting such as those pertaining to contrast, color, compliment and texture.  Whether two dimensional or  three dimensional  the end product depends on how the artist imagines something to be and if the fingers can interpret the signal.

I am a wanderer by nature and live my life in swirls of color dictated by what goes on around me.  Many of my works are the outcome of where I've been and what I've seen.  I may be inspired by the glittering confetti of colors rippling across a Venetian canal, the soft mists of Scotland or the turquoise doors of Taos.

Some years ago I spent time as studio assistant to Gaitha Browning, a Texas and New Mexico artist.  I cut my creative teeth on the feathers, pots and beads of Indian still life.  I've attended workshops through the years  with a number of artists who taught in various mediums.  I especially enjoyed being included in a Cowboy Artists of America workshop in Kerrville.

I juggle the demands of all my artistic interests and couldn't imagine life without any of them.  Beading is just another dimension and one that has given me many hours of pure pleasure.
