Militaria are artifacts or replicas of military, police, etc., collected for their historical significance. Such antiques include firearms, swords, knives, and other weapons such as; uniforms, helmets, other military headgear, and armour; military orders and decorations; challenge coins and awards; badges and insignia; military art, sculpture, and prints; ephemera such as cigarette cards, photographs, antiquarian books, magazines and posters; scale models and toy soldiers; and items of combat equipment and field gear. Today, the collecting of militaria is an established hobby among many groups of people. Many European families, specifically those royal families with long martial tradition, have large collections of militaria passed down from generation to generation. Also, many people today collect militaria for investment purposes, as the value of extremely rare antiquities almost never goes down. An alternate name, used by many dealers, for militaria is 'military antiquities' or 'military antiques'. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "Militaria" Anyone have any suggestions where to sell my German Militaria? Q. I have two items I'm looking to get rid of - an authentic German Bayonett and a reproduction Waffen-SS soldiers tunic. Been trying to get rid of them but haven't had much success, any help would be great. Asked by zero z - Sat Aug 16 01:30:36 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. The poster before me is quite wrong, stuff like this is traded often and quite sought after. Ebay is full of Nazi memorabilia (including bayonets and SS uniforms!), and it's OK to sell them as collector's items. You might fetch a good price for them, but that's if you're lucky, as the market is quite saturated. It's best you let all your friends know and tell their friends and friends of friends. The news might reach some Neo-Nazi punk who would gladly buy your militaria. And while people may not really like these guys, their money is just as good :). Hi - I collect Militaria but not Medals and I would be grateful if anyone could give me a ballpark 'value' figure for the following. 1 Genuine boxed (minus ribbon) Knights Cross 1st Class pinback - marked swastika/1939- Good condition. 2. Cross of Honour of the German Mother - (Mutterkreuz) Silver awarded for producing 6 or 7 children. Partial ribbon + impressed signature dated 16th September 1939.- Unfortunately Certificate missing. Any information gratefully received. Thank you for your time. Regards - Mark. Asked by Mark C - Wed Feb 25 15:46:51 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Not sure about the Mother ribon, but allow a few hundred. The ribon, perhaps less. The Rutter Coss, or Knights cross is another matter. Allow a minimum of 1200, but may reach considerably more, depending upon the nature of the award. The thing about the Knights cross is that it would only be handed out like the VC or the CMH. I.E. Outstanding acts of bravery or achievement. As such, each medal will have a documented history that will relate to specific actions. These medals are important because, unlike any other medal, these would have been presented to the recipient by Adolf Hitler in person. They will have been handled by Hitler. This makes it a very desirable piece of history. On the back of all German medals will be a small, [cont.] Answered by Alex - Thu Feb 26 17:15:35 2009 Where can i find cheap soviet union militaria online other than ebay?
