From Google News Search: "Publications" What publications to publishers (media sellers with inventory to sell) normally read? Q. Hi. It's a simple question. I am trying to determine what publications a Media Seller or Publisher would read. As an ad person or a PR practitioner, if I wanted to target them with some ads or news in some publications (print), which ones would have the most impact? Which ones would they be expected to read the most? Any and all help is appreciated! Asked by TheManCalledZee - Mon Mar 10 17:00:57 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Not as simple a question as it might seem. There as many specialised media sellers or publishers as there are blades of grass, so their preferred reading is likely to be just as varied. For this senior editor/publisher, I'm like a number others in that I'll read publications that are full of current events, usually dailies. I rarely will read a community paper, although lifestyle magazines are useful. But one of the biggest reading moves I and others like me are making, is online. It's easy, very regularly updated, makes no mess and aspects I might want to read in greater detail at a later time are easily saved. Q. I want to make some extra money while I apply at jobs and wait to see if I'm hired. Until I hear something from those stores, I want to make some money for prom and other school things. Since we're in a recession, I heard that print publications are cutting back on writers and downsizing. Any ideas? Are print publications still accepting writers and paying them? If so what would I have to do to write and get paid from them? How much do they pay? Asked by Tiffany H - Wed Mar 31 22:29:40 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes. And they still pay. The amount varies from market to market, and so does what they want. But you need to be really good. Not just with words, but with getting ideas across. What was acceptable in high school isn't in the paying markets. It's also a lot of hard work - the writing's the easy bit. You need to research the markets, research your material (and find the best references), send your pieces out to the publishers, wait for a long time until they get around to rejecting what you sent or maybe accepting it. And often the publication is done three to six months after you got the piece accepted. Many places don't pay until publication, so you can imagine how long you might have to wait for payment.
