What type of cameras do photographers use for these professions?
Q. What type of cameras do photographers use for these professions? What features and specifications are required? - photojournalist - sports photographer - portrait photographer - landscape photographer What is a good place to research professional cameras and talk to photographers about whic camera to purchase. I must start in the $1000-1500 range for the base lens and body. Thank you.

A. This is as good a place as any to gather information. There are several advanced amateurs and professional photographers here. You are right in thinking that professionals would pick gear to suit a specific shooting style. A photojournalist requires a fast standard zoom; A sports photographer requires a high FPS rate and fast tele-lenses (aperture and auto-focus); A portrait photographer requires great color rendition and a mild telephoto lens with a very large aperture; A landscape photographer requires wide angle lenses and a large negative/ sensor. Models and Photographers, what are the average modeling rates?
Q. I am looking for somebody who knows what they are talking about, not a smart ass kid. What are fair rates to charge a photographer for different types of modeling? I am 24, very fit, experienced, and professional. I am just tired of playing the guessing game with different photographers, I want to set solid rates. Thanks!

A. There is no such thing as solid rates. The rates will be determined by their usage. The same exact photo session can command vastly different rates based on a wide variety of factors. Some of which is the client. The prominence of the person in the shoot, The distribution, The longevity of the ad, whether or not there is a buy out, whether or not the is ad is exclusive. The market it is used for and there are many more factors. For example: We used people in the background for a VW spot. These pictures were only going in a catalog. The price we paid was $2500 dollars for the day. Now if these same exact pictures were going to be used in an billboard the rates would of been closer to $20,000 per day. A. Hey great question! The point of color is that it can correspond to mood in more obvious ways than black and white. For example, red might be associated with passion or anger, while blue might represent serenity and nature might represent green. There is an entire area of knowledge devoted to the emotional and psychological correspondences of color. Another thing to bear in mind is the combination of colors in an image. Sometimes red and green together really jar, more rarely it can work. Color combination theory is commonly used by artists and photographers. There are several applications and internet tools that can help you with this. (Try e.g., Color Consultant Pro.)
